Farm to School Program Celebrated at Minerva
Representatives from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Development, as well as the Ohio Beef Council, visited Minerva Local Schools to highlight the district's successful participation in the Farm to School Program.
About the Program
Farm to School is a national USDA network that connects schools (from pre-K to college) with local farmers. The program's goals are to:
Provide students with access to fresh, nutritious, locally grown food.
Educate children about agriculture, food, and nutrition.
Support local farmers and communities.
Expose students to career pathways in agriculture and nutrition.
Schools can participate in many ways, such as by serving local foods, planting school gardens, taking farm field trips, or holding classroom lessons on agriculture.
Minerva's Initiatives
During the visit, the team saw several of Minerva's Farm to School programs in action:
At Minerva High School: The Future Farmers of America (FFA) class presented their hydroponic garden, which supplies vegetables and herbs to school staff and the cafeteria.
At Minerva Elementary: Visitors observed students in classrooms participating in Farm to School learning activities.
Local Sourcing: The team met Kynsie Pero, a student from East Canton. The beef from her steer, which was purchased at the Stark County Fair, was served as beef burgers for lunch to the elementary students.
Stacey Bettis, the Minerva Local Nutrition Services Director, praised the "team effort" of the staff and administrators, expressing excitement over seeing students "so involved and engaged" in the learning opportunities.

🎃 Pumpkin Day in First Grade! 🎃
First grade wrapped up their life cycles unit in reading and celebrated with a fun-filled Pumpkin Day! Each class carved a pumpkin and placed it in a container with dirt so students can observe the pumpkin life cycle throughout the school year.
Other exciting pumpkin activities included:

🧡 Measuring pumpkins
🧡 Testing to see if pumpkins sink or float
🧡 Conducting a dissolving pumpkin science experiment

Join the Roxy Theatre on Saturday, October 11, at 7 p.m. for a showing of Hocus Pocus. Plan a whole evening of fun, as a costume contest will be presented before the film screening. Dress as your favorite Sanderson sister or any other character from the
movie for your chance to win a prize. There will be both a group winner and an individual winner.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with the costume contest starting at 7 p.m. and the film shortly thereafter.
Tickets are $5 for kids 12 and under and $8 for regular admission.

What YOU need to do as a parent:
1. Fill out the registration sheet and return ASAP (so we have plenty of time to order Nerf Blasters and food). Please send your $5 in with your registration paper if you need a Nerf Blaster. You will get to keep your Nerf Blaster at the end of the evening.
2. This is a FREE event UNLESS you need us to purchase a Nerf Blaster for your child.
3. The only Nerf Blasters you may bring are ones that use foam darts with a rubber plunger on the end. Minerva Mission will provide all darts. for the evening. DO NOT bring any from home.
4. Information packets will be sent home the week of 10-27 with all the details you'll need for the evening.
5. There will be 2 areas, you will be divided Pre-k - 2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade both will be filled with targets, activities, photo area, food and lost of games. You will rotate through both areas.
6. Unfortunately due to space we are limiting each student to 1 adult. If you have multiple kiddos and don't have an adult for them please reach out to Ms. Monica.
